As a member of the Shippensburg Site Purchasing Team, the associate buyer will manage the production supply base on a daily basis and purchase material in accordance with the defined strategies, by optimizing the total cost and ensuring the QSCC objectives. In addition, they will support the regional commodity management team by implementing commodity strategies.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Support the Volvo CE Purchasing objectives and goals

  • Responsible for the purchasing portfolio

  • Use the purchasing tools to drive continuous improvement in supplier Quality, Sustainability, Capacity and Cost (QSCC).

  • Manage serial production changes (DCN….)

  • Collaborate with Purchasing New Product Development/Project Leaders

  • Research supplier invoice discrepancies versus VCE established pricing, document and take appropriate actions with the supplier and Commodity managers as required.

  • Send out RFQ’s to approved suppliers, negotiate prices, and select suppliers in accordance with sourcing strategies.

  • Understand, contribute to and implement decided Volvo purchasing strategies where applicable

  • Place production and prototype orders with approved suppliers

  • Suggest educated sourcing changes to the commodity buyer/manager

  • Be involved in the supplier selection and implementation as part of the commodity team

  • Maintain plant supplier list updated and in line with commodity strategy, propose and contribute to rationalization

  • Maintain updated component/supplier documentation and complete information

  • Help validate plant QSCC information

  • Prioritize local resolution of issues but escalate to Commodity Buyers or higher level when needed

  • Fully understand the TLC for all components in the commodity area (Total Landed Cost including packaging, duties and transportation)

  • Challenge Logistics, Quality and Packaging experts and lead / organize brainstorming activities with them to generate productivity savings through transport/packaging optimization

  • Evaluate suppliers in accordance with the Volvo processes

  • Follow-up and report operational activities during projects

  • Work closely with and support the inbound Materials group for appropriate related activities

  • Work in accordance with the Volvo CE processes, the Volvo Way, and the Volvo values and behaviors

  • Be the first point of contact for plant operations team for supplier caused QD issues

  • Participate actively in APQP activities, when required, on level of parts to be processed with the Supplier Development Engineer

  • Escalate QSCC relevant issues out of DCN’s, projects etc. in accordance with cOMMon and the site processes

Required knowledge, experience, education:

  • Bachelor degree or higher

  • 1 year or more experience in tactical purchasing environment
