What you will do

As a Driveline Engineer, you will collaborate with component verification leaders and different technology design teams to support/develop proprietary axles and transmissions. The primary objective is to develop and validate the driveline components to fully meet the safety, functionality requirements, and the Volvo quality standards.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and validation of transmissions and axle components.

  • Provide technical expertise to the organization in the areas of product design, product application, reliability, and durability.

  • Create and maintain product documentation, as well as providing technical direction to bargaining unit mechanics and test technicians; developing schedules; establishing priorities.

  • Execute decisions on types of testing, specify test procedures, instrumentation and hardware used in test of designs. Interpret and evaluate test results and make recommendations based on findings. Issue written and oral reports.

  • Perform FMEA’s and design reviews for product components & systems that release into our Product Database Management system.

  • Work in an Agile environment

The Driveline group is responsible for the application, development, and maintenance of the powertrain components from the flywheel to the driven wheels; i.e clutches, transmissions, driveshafts, axles, hybrid and electric drivetrains in North America.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required; Master of Science preferred

  • Gearbox and Axle Design experience is desired. Candidates with prior experience in Helical/Spur Gear design and Spiral Bevel gear design will be preferred.

  • Candidates should have working knowledge of face hobbing, face milling, shaving and grinding of gears along with material selection and heat-treatment processes.

  • Experienced in CAD and simulation tools such as Romax is preferred.
