What you will do

We are looking for a Senior Cost Engineer to join our growing Cost Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Calculating part prices and tooling investments for both new projects and existing business. This will involve performing cost target setting and cost breakdowns of parts based on CAD data, drawings, specifications, or physical parts.

  • Participating and being involved in the early phases of advanced engineering and concept selection, collaborating with engineering and design teams. As the product progresses, you’ll continue to support the targets you’ve set through the sourcing process. Your expertise will also support the change management process, calculating impacts on tooling and product cost.

  • Acting as an active partner with PD supporting with Design to Cost – giving industrial engineering support giving advice on efficient designs for manufacturability and on material selection that fulfils the design criteria.

  • Being an active partner in negotiations together with purchasing both in the initial sourcing and in the change management process.

  • Taking in-depth technical discussions with supplier in their production lines or lay-outs about cost drivers and investments.

  • Facilitating change management with the lens of understanding the impact on dies / tools and be able to transfer this into cost.

  • Visiting suppliers / technical exhibitions to be aware of current production methods and materials, but also future technologies that will be used when our vehicles go into production.

  • Working closely with a cross-functional team, including buyers, engineers, project leaders, and colleagues within the Controlling & Strategy department.

  • Sheet Metal & Welding

  • Casting

  • Forging

  • Machining

  • Product Assemblies (with various manufacturing methods)

Additional qualifications include

  • Experience in cost engineering, supply chain, or manufacturing or development engineering. We’re also open to expertise in emerging manufacturing technologies, such as battery or hydrogen fuel cell technologies.

  • Comfortable negotiating and collaborating with others.

  • As a person you are easy to cooperate with and are willing to contribute to the team. You are also able to take your own initiatives and can work independently. It’s important that you are analytical and structured.

  • Interest in both the commercial and technical aspects of our products and projects and that you are comfortable with negotiations.

  • Any kind of international background and experience to working with European companies and cultures would be beneficial, as many new projects are developed in Europe.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5-12+ years of related experience in a related role.

  • Knowledge of both the commercial and technical aspects of the automotive industry.

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken, as we operate globally.
